Sodium Chloride

The sodium chloride is the sodium salt of hydrochloric acid and it is the main constituent of common salt. At room temperature it is a colorless, crystalline solid with a characteristic odor and flavor. Its crystals have a cubic lattice whose vertices alternate sodium ions Na + and Cl- chloride ions. In aqueous solution, or molten, it leads electric current. The sodium chloride is found abundantly in nature. Most of it is dissolved in water, to form sea-water; in part it is located as a mineral in the solid state in the mainland of fields (in this case it takes the name of “rock salt”). The manufacturing processes vary according to the form in which sodium chloride is available.
