Lead is a malleable and heavy metal with dark gray color due to the presence of surface oxidation; melt at 327,46 °C, with the emission of vapors at about 450 ° C. Its boiling temperature is about 1740 °C. It can be used in its pure form, in alloy with other metals or for the production of inorganic compounds or as tetraethyl lead, antiknock for old fuels. There are many fields of application: construction of electric accumulators, in the electrodes and in the grids both metallic lead and lead oxides; chemical industry; in construction; in the electric power industry; in the manufacture of protective shields against radiation and noise; in munitions production.
